How it works

Three steps. Studio output.

From raw footage to a finished film — without leaving your phone.

01

Capture or import

Record in-app, pull from your gallery, paste a URL, or drop in royalty-free stock from Pexels and Freesound.

02

Edit with AI

Build a multi-track timeline. Apply effects, color, transitions, captions. Let the AI suite or an MCP assistant help.

03

Export in 4K

Render on-device with hardware-accelerated encoders. Save to camera roll or share to any platform.

On-device editing

Timeline, render, and captions all run on-device. Nothing uploaded.

Cloud AI is opt-in

Bring your own OpenAI-compatible key. We never proxy your prompts.

Analytics kill-switch

Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics can be disabled with one tap in Settings.

Secrets stay secret

API keys live in the iOS Keychain / Android Keystore — never in plain text.

Built for AI

The first mobile editor designed to be operated by an assistant.

Connect Claude, ChatGPT, or any MCP-compatible client. Let AI suggest cuts, color, captions, and music. Or use the built-in AI toolkit yourself.

MCP Server

An editor that takes instructions.

The in-app Model Context Protocol server lets AI assistants add layers, apply effects, capture canvas, validate scripts, and export — all as undoable commands.

Voiceover

Type a script. Get a voiceover.

Built-in text-to-speech turns written scripts into polished voiceover layers, with script validation that catches issues before synthesis.

Render Engine

Render your videos without a phone.

A single-binary, command-line renderer that produces the same finished output as the app — it reads the very same project JSON the app exports and the same .ectpl templates you save. Drive it from a shell, CI, or an AI agent over MCP.

Same project, same pixels

Phone-made projects, rendered headless.

Drop a project JSON or a template onto macOS, Windows, or Linux and render the finished MP4 — every layer, effect, transition, mask, animation, and lower-third intact. Deterministic: same project + version = byte-identical output.

Explore the engine
Templates at scale

One template, hundreds of cuts.

Apply a .ectpl template and fill its slots from a JSON file, CSV, or database — perfect for bulk product cuts, real-estate listings, and AI-generated reels. Outputs MP4, HLS, frame sequences, or a live preview stream.

Automate with MCP

Let an assistant build and render.

Pair the in-app MCP server with the engine: an AI agent assembles the timeline, verifies each frame with self-describing canvas captures, then renders end-to-end — scriptable from a shell, a Makefile, or GitHub Actions.

Strokes & Borders

Per-element stroke colour, width, and corner radius — for shapes, text, and image masks alike.

Reaction & Duet Capture

Record a split-screen reaction beside imported footage — perfect for reactions and tutorials.

Plugin System

Extend the editor with custom effects, filters, layer types, and AI providers via the SDK.

Remote Rendering

Offload long exports and team renders to a remote worker, with the same scene graph format.

Watermark Control

Brand exports with a custom watermark — or turn it off entirely on supported tiers.

Portable Project Files

Every project is a single self-contained file. Move it between devices, back it up, or hand it to a teammate.

Auto-Save & Recovery

Every change commits to disk continuously. Crashes don't lose work — pick up exactly where you left off.

60 fps GPU Preview

Skia-powered preview with hardware-accelerated decoding — scrub a multi-track timeline without dropping frames.

In the wild

Built for creators who don't compromise.

An editor that feels like it was designed by someone who actually edits. The MCP server is wild — Claude actually cuts my drafts now.

AI Philosophy

Intelligent by design. Efficient by nature.

We believe AI should empower creators — not consume resources blindly. Three principles guide the work.

01

Community-Driven Assets

AI-generated assets are designed to be shared, reused, and enhanced across the creator community. Your creations contribute to a growing ecosystem.

02

Smart Token Optimization

Every AI interaction is optimized for minimal token usage without compromising quality. Caching, asset reuse, and efficient processing — by default.

03

Cross-Project Collaboration

Resources are portable by design. Enhance once, apply everywhere — seamlessly carry AI-improved elements across projects with no rework.

For teams

An editor your whole creative org can ship with.

Embed the ExpoCut engine in your own app via the SDK, ship a brand-controlled video tool to your customers, or scale long renders to a remote worker. Same scene graph, same portable project file, same on-device guarantees.

  • SDK packages — modular core, engine, UI, AI & plugin modules
  • Remote rendering — server-side export at scale
  • White-label branding & watermark control
  • Custom AI providers via the provider registry
  • Audit log of every command, including AI
  • SLA & private support tier

FAQ

Questions, answered.

What video formats does ExpoCut support?
All major formats — MP4, MOV, AVI and more. Export up to 4K with H.264 or HEVC at configurable bitrate.
What devices are supported?
iOS and Android — phones and tablets. Hardware-accelerated rendering uses AVFoundation on iOS and MediaCodec on Android.
Can I use my own media?
Yes. Import from your gallery, camera, direct URL, or paste from social platforms. Built-in stock from Pexels and Freesound is one tap away.
Does ExpoCut have AI features?
Yes — on-device background removal, chroma key, auto reframe, speech-to-text captions, and text-to-speech voiceover. Everything runs on-device by default; optional cloud AI providers are opt-in and disabled until you turn them on.
Can Claude or ChatGPT control ExpoCut?
Yes. The optional in-app MCP server lets any MCP-compatible AI client add layers, apply effects, capture a canvas screenshot, validate scripts, and export. It's off by default and runs only on a local interface.
Does ExpoCut upload my videos to the cloud?
No. Editing, rendering, and export run on-device. Your project stays on your phone and never leaves it unless you explicitly trigger an opt-in cloud capability.
How many effects and transitions are included?
130+ effects, 120+ filters, 40 video transitions, 47 audio effects, 35 audio transitions, 120+ lower-third presets, and 13 animation overlays — with regular updates.
Can ExpoCut generate captions from speech?
Yes. The AI captions feature transcribes spoken audio on-device and places time-aligned caption layers on the timeline that you can style with any title preset.
Does music automatically duck under voiceover?
Yes. Smart Audio Ducking detects speech in voice tracks and automatically lowers the music level underneath, with adjustable target volume and recovery time.
Can I keyframe my own animations?
Yes. Every layer property — position, scale, rotation, opacity, color, even effect parameters — can be keyframed with easing curves, stored in the project file.
Is there an SDK to embed ExpoCut in our own app?
Yes. The SDK ships as modular packages (core, engine, UI, AI, plugins, remote). White-label branding, custom AI providers, watermark control, and remote rendering are all supported. Get in touch.
What happens to my project if the app crashes?
Every change commits to the on-device project file continuously, so a crash never loses more than the most recent unfinished gesture. Reopen the project and pick up exactly where you left off.
Can I turn off analytics and crash reporting?
Yes. ExpoCut uses Firebase Analytics and Crashlytics by default to fix bugs and improve stability, but both can be disabled with a single toggle in Settings. Anonymized usage events do not include any content of your videos, photos, audio, or project metadata. See the privacy policy for the full event list.
Which cloud AI providers can I plug in?
Any OpenAI-compatible REST endpoint — OpenAI, Anthropic (Claude), Azure OpenAI, your own self-hosted model, or any service that speaks the same protocol. You bring the API key; it's stored in the iOS Keychain / Android Keystore so it never leaves the device in plain text. Cloud AI features are off until you turn them on.
Why does ExpoCut ask for notifications?
Only to let you know when a long-running task finishes — exports, remote renders, or a fresh beta-channel update. You can deny the permission entirely or revoke it later in your device settings without losing any editing features.
